People are asking for my photos

This is interesting - I start getting more and more inquiries for using picures that I have taken and published on the internet. Just this week, I got two requests - one even from a guy in England who wanted to use a picture of a train from Belgium (I don’t think he was able to use it though - I didn’t have a high enoug resolution) and just now, I got a call from a lady from the Mercury News that wants to use my picture of the duck atop the Children’s Discovery Museum.

Maybe I should switch jobs? :-)

Tax Season is upon us - here come the IRS Phishing emails …

They shouldn’t be allowed to do that …

They really shouldn’t be allowed to wrap up completely unrelated things into one piece of legislation. That’s totally ridiculous. And sneaky. And it happens a lot - usually with budget resolutions and things like that …

Defying Bush, Republicans in the House of Representatives intended on Wednesday to attach an amendment blocking the deal to legislation providing $91 billion for states recovering from Hurricane Katrina and to finance wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

[Ports deal sparks biggest party revolt vs. Bush - Yahoo! News]

If they want to block the ports deal - fine - but do it as a separate piece of legislation. If I were Bush, I’d just stand firm and veto the bill. Take the bad press - what does he care? It’s his last term anyway. Force Congress to either overrule the veto with an appropriate majority or come up with separate bills. This will hurt Congress far more than it will hurt the President. Some members are up for reelection this fall and if their opponents can say “oh, they weren’t even able to approve money for the poor victims of Katrina” that won’t do them much good …

Welcome back, Ma Bell …

In pseudo-mathematics:

The split of Ma Bell (AT&T):
AT&T / 7 = Baby Bells (US West, Pacific Telesis, Southwestern Bell, Ameritech, Nynex, Bell Atlantic, BelLSouth)

Consolidation among the Baby Bells:
Pacific Telesis + Southwestern Bell = SBC
SBC + Ameritech = SBC
Nynex + Bell Atlantic = Bell Atlantic
Bell Atlantic + GTE = Verizon
Qwest + US West = Qwest

Various AT&T spinoffs:
AT&T - [wireless] = AT&T + AT&T Wireless
AT&T + NCR = AT&T
AT&T - NCR = AT&T + NCR
AT&T - [Bell Labs] = AT&T + Lucent

The rebirth of Ma Bell:
Cingular = new (SBC & BellSouth)
Cingular & AT&T Wireless = Cingular
SBC + AT&T = AT&T

And now:
AT&T + BellSouth + Cingular = AT&T

I probably missed a few details … more infor here:
