The split of Ma Bell (AT&T):
AT&T / 7 = Baby Bells (US West, Pacific Telesis, Southwestern Bell, Ameritech, Nynex, Bell Atlantic, BelLSouth)

Consolidation among the Baby Bells:
Pacific Telesis + Southwestern Bell = SBC
SBC + Ameritech = SBC
Nynex + Bell Atlantic = Bell Atlantic
Bell Atlantic + GTE = Verizon
Qwest + US West = Qwest

Various AT&T spinoffs:
AT&T - [wireless] = AT&T + AT&T Wireless
AT&T + NCR = AT&T
AT&T - NCR = AT&T + NCR
AT&T - [Bell Labs] = AT&T + Lucent

The rebirth of Ma Bell:
Cingular = new (SBC & BellSouth)
Cingular & AT&T Wireless = Cingular
SBC + AT&T = AT&T

And now:
AT&T + BellSouth + Cingular = AT&T
